Memo: Newsom to Close All Beaches and State Parks 04-30-20 01:43 DC

According to a memo to its members, the California Police Chief’s Association says Gov. Gavin Newsom could announce the closure of all beaches and state parks effective Friday.

The widely circulated memo, obtained by news organizations, said the decision was made after crowds flocked to beaches this past weekend, violating the state’s shelter-in-place order.

Central Coast cities and counties had already announced plans to boost beach restrictions. However, neither the City of Monterey nor Santa Cruz County planned the total beach closures Gov. Newsom now appears poised to enact effective tomorrow.

The beach and state park closures are intended to slow the spread of COVID-19. No expiration date was mentioned in the police chiefs’ memo,
