The monterey county board of supervisors has approved a resolution urging the governor to re-examine the approval of methyl iodide. The controversial pesticide is being phased-in as a replacement for methyl bromide, but some people are concerned about the possible health effects of the chemical. By a vote of 4 to 1, monterey county supervisors added their board to the list of concerned citizens. The resolution calls on governor brown to take another look at alternatives to methyl iodide. Methyl bromide, which is commonly used in central coast strawberry fields, is being phased out under an international treaty, because of negative effects on the ozone.
