Monterey County Sheriff Mike Kanalakis relinquished his long-time position of 34 years this week to new incoming Sheriff Scott Miller. According to Kanalakis, his biggest challenge when starting as Sheriff of Monterey County in 2003 was implementing immediate budget cuts, his greatest accomplishments he believes was the formation of the gang task force, and his biggest regret he feels was not getting more funding for a new county jail. A swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Miller at 10 a.m. on January 3rd.
