The sheriff for Monterey county has been censured for the misuse of taxpayer money. That after Sheriff Steve Bernal is accused of misusing fund during the 2019 California State Sheriff’s Association convention. Monterey County Supervisors were concerned about county funds being used outside the normal scope of sheriff’s office employees. Sheriff Steve Bernal said that he appreciated the work that the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office did in this investigation, and that he and his officers would apply those findings to future special security events in Monterey county.
