A Monterey County Superior Court Judge has announced her retirement. Judge Lydia M Villareal plans to end her 2 decades-on-the-bench on April 28th. Villarreal obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology (with honors) from U.C.- Santa Cruz, and her Juris Doctoris from U.C. – Berkeley Law School. While in law school, she clerked for Justice Frank Newman of the California Supreme Court. Before being appointed to the bench, herself, Villarreal worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Monterey County, in the Consumer/Environmental Unit….and earlier in her career, she worked for California Rural Legal Assistance, heading up the Migrant Farmworker Unit.
Judge Villarreal is known for her fairness, and the respect she offers those appearing in her courtroom.
