Although many events have been cancelled during this pandemic, some have just changed format….such as a Thanksgiving meal giveaway in Monterey county that people need to make reservations for. 2 non-profits, a bank, and the city of Monterey, are working together to provide Thanksgiving meals for people who are suffering financially. The meals will be handed out via a Drive-thru that will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving, in the parkinglot for Dennis The Menace Playground. That’s located at El Estero Park at 777 Pearl Street. To make a reservation, people can call (831) 646-3866 or go on-line to: https://bit.ly/2U267Gs. Pick-up times will be provided once the reservation is made. The meals will include: fresh turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, fresh vegetables and pumpkin pie, that people can pick up on Wednesday and cook on Thursday.
For this year, this meal-giveaway is replacing the annual Thanksgiving Meal (that is traditionally offered at the Monterey County Fairgrounds). Additionally, Kiwanis volunteers will be providing some 350 meals to people who are unable to leave their homes in the cities of Pacific Grove, Monterey, Seaside and Marina. The 300 Mentally ill residents in Monterey county, who are served by Monterey-based Interim Incorporated, will be provided Thanksgiving and Christmas meals by Interim.
