May 8, 2016: UCSC Drug Use Trend Prompts Warnings

(13:16) SANTA CRUZ- A rise in UCSC drug abuse violations have prompted warnings from university officials.  UCSC campus police have reported a dramatic rise in drug violations from 3 reported in 2010 to 31 cases in 2014. That coupled with four fatal overdoses in 2015 and several recent large drug busts have campus officials concerned. The trend is believed to be associated with a growing number of the student body enrolling in science and math courses. The university is seeking ways to provide more drug awareness education to students, and to provide the opiod blocker, naloxone to campus police and students. More information can be obtained at the student health center.
