Air quality officials are trying to figure out what stinks in Marina. And so far, none of their ideas have turned out to be correct.
Officials of the Monterey Bay Air Resources District say complaints about foul odors have been on the rise. There have been nearly 100 complaints since 2017 about “horrible smells” and a “terrible odor.”
Most of the complaints come from the northern part of Marina.
So far, officials know more about where the stench isn’t coming from and little about where it originates. Already ruled out are the Marina landfill, the wastewater treatment facility, and agricultural fields. Nevertheless, the air resources district says the search for the stink will continue.
