Marina police department officials have announced the department’s “officer of the year.” Officer Richard Moreno was given the honor, after being nominated and voted by fellow officers as the winner. Officer Moreno was recognized for a range of actions, including: arrests in high-profile cases, aiding a gunshot victim, obtaining a confession in one case, and coordinating a successful search effort for a wanted bank robber. Moreno was also noted for his work with the department’s officer reserve training program. Officer Moreno is known for working with his “k-9” partner, “Thunder.”
