Let it burn! That’s the motto of the Marina fire department when dealing with abandoned housing on the former fort ord.
An abandoned duplex on Walker street went up in flames around 11:30 last night, there are no injuries.
According to Captain Mark Sweeney of the marina fire department, once he determines the burning structure is not a threat to humans or other buildings, rather than battle the blaze… it’s better to let it burn itself out.
Captain Sweeney adds those abandoned buildings are a fire hazard. The duplex burned until around 6-am and was still smoldering by 10. Crews will be monitoring it on an ongoing basis.
