In an effort to provide the city of Marina with a 2nd fire station, work has begun on renovating an old Army firehouse at the city’s Municipal Airport. An expansion of the Fire Department’s facilities, which was planned for several years, has been on hold due to the economic downturn. Renovating the old station on Hillcrest Avenue is expected to improve fire services for the community, while also providing a full service department to the existing building, which was built in the 1990’s.
