A special meeting will be held in Marina later today regarding a Federal money request for a planned Fort Ord Veteran’s cemetery. The City will review a proposed letter of City support that was suggested by Congressman Sam Farr. Council members are expected to endorse a state application for 6.8-million dollars for the Fort Ord Cemetery to the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Also today, Carmel City Council members will consider approving a letter to Governor Jerry Brown urging he sign Senate Bill 2-31, which would appropriate 1-million dollars for the proposed cemetery.
Meanwhile, backers of the cemetery are still trying to raise 2.5-million dollars by next week in order to accept a 6.-8-million dollar reserved Federal Grant, that’s set to expire on October 15th.
