Two 20-year-old Santa Clara men were at a preliminary hearing in a Santa Cruz County courtroom Tuesday, for allegedly stealing 2 pounds of marijuana from a woman in Scotts Valley. Simon Belai and Kevin Gebremedhin reportedly contacted the woman through a Craigslist ad, and the three planned to meet at the Pinnacle Pass parking lot in Scotts Valley on May 3rd. The victim was allegedly giving the two men some medical marijuana in exchance for a donation to her marijuana collective, but when she opened her trunk to obtain the pot, one man assaulted her while the other grabbed the three bags. Belai and Gebremedhin drove away, but the victim was able to copy their license plate number. Both men are charged with robbery. Gebremedhin is additionally charged with assault.
