(09:27) SACRAMENTO – A report released this week by the California State Auditor alleges that the University of California has lowered admission standards for out-of-state students. According to the auditor’s findings, the number of accepted UC applicants from outside of California has doubled in the past five years. Meanwhile, the admission rate of in-state students has fallen to record lows. The report also says that the UC system has gathered millions more in tuition fees as a result, since out-of-state students pay triple of what in-state undergraduates pay for a UC education. UC officials deny the allegations and argue that out-of-state enrollment has increased due to cuts to funding. The state auditor is now pushing for additional legislation that would put a cap on out-of-state enrollment. (S.G.)
