(19:50) SALINAS – A man accused of stealing a law enforcement officer’s assault rifle has pleaded “not guilty”. Salinas Police Chief Kelly McMillin said the AR-15 was taken (from the trunk of his unmarked patrol car) on Friday, along with ammunition, and his bulletproof vest. The rifle was secured in a steel gun lock installed in the trunk, and the thief ripped the entire gunlock out of the vehicle. The car was parked at Chief McMillin’s house at the time. Joseph Twiford Sutton is scheduled to be back in a Monterey County Court Room early next month.
