March 22, 2016: Two Arrested Following Fatal Crash on Highway 1 Near Castroville

(06:37) MONTEREY COUNTY – Two UCSC students have been arrested following a crash that killed one and injured seven on Highway 1 in Monterey County Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 12:30 near Molera Road when a Lexus SUV veered into oncoming traffic and struck a Mazda sedan being driven by a Prunedale man. He was pronounced dead at the scene. All occupants of the Lexus sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical. The driver of the Lexus, 19-year-old UCSC student Lynnea Hernandez was arrested for DUI. Her passenger, 19-year-old Sarah Cameron, was also arrested after being caught attempting to dispose of a bag of drugs in a field near the crash site. The investigation is ongoing. (S.G.)
