March 13, 2016: Officer Won’t be Charged in Monterey Shooting

(12:28) MONTEREY- A Monterey police officer has been cleared of any wrong doing in a fatal shooting. In October of last year officer Zachary Reed fatally shot Donald Miller after he repeatedly ignored orders to drop a gun, he had brandished at visitors near the Portola Hotel and Spa, and then at the officer. Although the gun turned out to be a replica, the D.A.’s Office stated, under Califonia law, “The officer was under no obligation to retreat. To the contrary, he was permitted to stand his ground. He had a duty to protect himself and the general public.”
