A man who was wrongly convicted of a 1986 murder and has spent 33 years behind bars is expected to be released today. Jack Sagin was convicted in the murder of a Monterey woman, Paula Durocher.

His conviction was largely based on the testimony of two jailhouse informants. A California appeals court vacated the conviction based on new DNA testing.

On Thursday, the Monterey District Attorney’s Office announced that they would not retry Sagin for murder and the court ordered Sagin to be released from prison.
