A man has swum across the Monterey Bay, using “English Channel” rules. John Zemaitis swam out of Santa Cruz around 7 p.m. Tuesday night, and got to San Carlos Beach 17 hours later. Following “English Channel” rules means he did the 25.1 mile swim without assistance, and without a wetsuit. John’s brother (Joe) also did the swim, but had to be pulled out of the water about a mile from Monterey….after he showed signs of hypothermia. The water temperature at the time was said to be 56 degrees.
