Watsonville police say a pedestrian died Tuesday night in what they described as a hit-and-run accident. They are investigating reports that the driver, whom they later apprehended, was racing another car before the crash around 9 PM.
The driver, 26-year-old Jesus Picos DeLeon reportedly hit a second car while fleeing the scene. He has been held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
Pedestrian Jason Silva, 38, was killed while jaywalking across Freedom Boulevard, between Lincoln and Marin streets. He died at the scene.
Police are investigating reports that DeLeon may have been racing at the time of the fatal crash. If you have information, call the Watsonville police at 831-768-3315.
