Salinas police say the Tuesday morning killing of a 26-year-old woman appears to have been a random act of violence. A suspect was arrested near the scene and has been jailed and charged with murder.
Around 9:30 AM, Mariana Jurado was leaving her home near Clay Street and Cayuga Street when she was stabbed. Police arrested 43-year-old Garrett Scheff, who police say did not know Jurado.
The woman died from her injuries at a local hospital.
Jurado was taken to the hospital, but died of her injuries.
