Man Arrested in Brutal Attack on Carmel Woman 05-08-20 03:21 DC

Carmel police say a man has turned himself in for the Monday morning sexual assault and attempted murder of a 61-year-old Carmel woman.

The subject is 20-year-old Isaac Jesus Garcia of Salinas. He was arrested at around 4 p.m. Thursday when he turned himself in to Salinas police.

He has been charged with attempted murder, sexual assault, and assault with a deadly weapon charge and has been booked into the Monterey County Jail.

The assault occurred around 7 a.m. Monday at a home near 13th and Scenic Drive. Police said the victim was loading items into her vehicle when a man approached her in her driveway.

Police say their camera system gave investigators immediate information regarding the suspect’s vehicle, license plate information, and even a general description of the suspect.

The Salinas SWAT team and Carmel police served multiple search warrants Tuesday evening.

Officers identified the suspect and kept in contact with his family, who helped to get Garcia to turn himself in to Salinas police.
