Major Development’s Parking Requirement Could be Cut 09-28-18 04:14 DC

The number of parking spaces required to construct a major development in downtown Santa Cruz could be reduced under a finding Thursday by city’s downtown commission. The six-story, 205-unit apartment and retail complex is planned for a location near the intersection of Pacific Avenue, Laurel Street and Front Street.

The development includes a parking garage, but still comes out as many as 65 spaces short of city parking requirements. The city’s Downtown Commission found Thursday that enough space exists elsewhere downtown to cover the shortage. City staff, however, warned the project might impact future development downtown.

The city planning commission and then the city council will have final say.
