a recent study of the rare yellow-billed magpie bird showed that san benito county was one of 24 california counties that the birds were found in. the survey was the 3rd annual effort to find the population of the yellow billed magpie in california’s 58 counties. about 260 volunteers submitted checklists to audubon california, who sponsored the survey. 18 magpies were found in san benito county, the 19th most of the 24 counties where the birds were found.
