Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge John Salazar has determined that a law that went into effect in January Is Unconstitutional. Senate Bill 13-91 prohibits 14 and 15 year-olds from facing adult proceedings in California. Among other things, today’s ruling by Judge Salazar could mean that Adrian “A.J.” Gonzalez’s case will be heard in adult court. Gonzalez, who is now 19 years-old, is accused of having tortured and killed 8 year-old Maddy Middleton in the Tannery Arts Complex in Santa Cruz (where they both lived). Her murder took place back in July of 2015, when Gonzalez was 15 years-old.
