A SUSPECTED BANK ROBBER ARRESTED FOLLOWING 2 BOMB SCARES YESTERDAY IN DOWNTOWN MONTEREY, HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A SENIOR CITIZEN. POLICE SAY GREENFIELD RESIDENT 78-YEAR OLD SERGIO VALDERRAMA HELD UP AN EAST FRANKLIN STREET BANK AT GUNPOINT BEFORE FLEEING WITH AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF CASH. HE WAS ARRESTED AND THEN TOLD OFFICERS HE PLANTED A HOMEMADE BOMB OUTSIDE A MUNRAS AVENUE BANK AND ANOTHER AT WASHINGTON AND PEARL STREET. THE BOMB SQUAD LOCATED AND DETONATED BOTH DEVICES. AUTHORITIES CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE THE INCIDENT, WHICH CAUSED A 7-BLOCK RADIUS TO SHUT DOWN FOR OVER FOUR HOURS.
