(18:50)BIG SUR-The U.S. Forest Service announced it will be implementing increased fire restrictions in Los Padres National Forest. The restrictions are in response to increasing potential for wildfires. The restrictions will remain in effect until the end of fire season in late autumn. The Level II restrictions include the use of campfires, stoves and smoking materials. Open fires, campfires and charcoal fires are banned outside of developed recreation sites or designated campfire use sites, even with a state campfire permit. Lanterns and portable stoves that use gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel will be permitted, but only with campfire permits. Visitors must clear all flammable material 5 feet in all directions from their stove and must ensure a responsible person attends the stove at all times during use. Campfire permits are available free of charge at fs.usda.gov/lpnf or at any Forest Service office.
