AN 18 YEAR-OLD WAS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH SEVERAL RECENT INSTANCES OF FIREWORKS BEING EXPLODED IN SALINAS. GEORGE MENDOZA REPORTEDLY TOLD THE ARRESTING OFFICERS THAT HE AND HIS FRIENDS WERE THE ONES SETTING OFF THE FIREWORKS OVER THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS. AUTHORITIES HAD RECEIVED 36 SUCH CALLS IN JUST A FEW DAYS.

THE SANTA CRUZ WATER COMMISSION HAS CONFIRMED THAT WATER RATIONING WILL BEING MAY 1ST, AND THE SANTA CRUZ CITY COUNCIL WILL LOOK AT UPHOLDING THAT DECISION WHEN IT MEETS LATER THIS MONTH. THE WATER COMMISSION MADE THE RULING YESTERDAY AFTER THEY HEARD THE FINAL SUPPLY OUTLOOK FROM THIS YEAR’S RAINY SEASON. ALTHOUGH THE RAINS IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH DID HELP, IT ONLY IMPROVED THE SEASON TOTAL TO 43 PERCENT OF NORMAL, AND THE SURFACE RUN-OFF IS JUST 13 PERCENT OF THE LONG-TERM AVERAGE. THE SANTA CRUZ WATER COMMISSION HAS ALSO BEGUN WORK ON A PROPOSED LONG-TERM CONSERVATION PLAN.

IT DOES, HOWEVER, MEAN THAT MICROSOFT NO LONGER PLANS TO PROVIDE NEW SECURITY UPDATES, ISSUE FIXES TO NON-SECURITY-RELATED PROBLEMS, OR OFFER TECHNICAL CONTENT UPDATES. THEY DO PLAN TO CONTINUE TO PROVide ANTI-MAL-WARE RELATED UPDATES THROUGH MID-JULY OF 2015.

ABOUT 400 FEET OF THE RANCHERIA FALLS TRAIL IN YOSEMITE WAS DESTROYED RECENTLY, WHEN 16 TONS OF ROCK CRASHED DOWN ON IT. THE ROCKS FELL ABOUT 500 FEET DOWN A CLIFF, EAST OF WAPAMA FALLS NEAR THE HETCH HETCHY RESERVOIR. PARK STAFF SAYS ALTHOUGH THE RANCHERIA FALLS TRAIL WILL REMAIN CLOSED IN THAT AREA FOR SOME TIME, HIKERS CAN STILL GET TO THE FALLS BY STARTING AT O’SHAUGHNESSY DAM.

A 22 YEAR-OLD WOMAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER SHE LED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON A RECENT HIGH-SPEED CHASE THROUGH HOLLISTER. PATRICIA CAUDILLO WAS ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF DRIVING WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE, AND FELONY EVADING OFFICERS. SHE WAS BOOKED INTO SAN BENITO COUNTY JAIL.
