A  SALINAS  ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER  HAS  BEEN  PLACED  ON  PAID  ADMINISTRATIVE  LEAVE.    THE  TEACHER  HAS  BEEN  ACCUSED  OF  SLAPPING  AN  8  YEAR-OLD  CHILD,   AND  THAT  ACCUSATION  IS  BEING  INVESTIGATED.     THIS  IS  THE  FIRST  TIME  SUCH AN  ALLEGATION  HAS  BEEN  FILED  AGAINST  THIS  TEACHER

A  SECTION  OF  MAIN  STREET  IN  WATSONVILLE  WAS  CLOSED  FOR  A  WHILE  THIS  AFTERNOON.     THAT  AFTER A  VEHICLE  HIT  A  PEDESTRIAN  AROUND  3:30 P-M.    THE  INJURED  MAN  WAS AIR-LIFTED  TO  A  BAY  AREA  TRAUMA  CENTER.     THE  ACCIDENT  OCCURRED  ON  THE  200 BLOCK  OF MAIN  STREET  (WHICH  IS  BETWEEN  RIVERSIDE  DRIVE  AND  MAPLE  AVENUE).

RESIDENTS OF A CASTROVILLE MOBILE HOME PARK ARE BEING ASKED TO BOIL THEIR WATER UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.    P-G-AND-E HAD ISSUES AT THE MONTE DEL LAGO PARK MONDAY CAUSING A “BROWN OUT” THAT PREVENTED WATER FROM PUMPING THROUGH THE PIPES.      WATER OFFICIALS ADVISE THE MOBILE HOME PARK’S RESIDENTS TO USE EITHER BOTTLED WATER OR BOIL WATER FOR ONE MINUTE BEFORE DRINKING OR FOOD PREPARATION FOR THE TIME BEING.    THE BOIL ALERT IS EXPECTED TO BE LIFTED WITHIN FOUR DAYS.

A SANTA CRUZ MAN IS IN JAIL FOR ATTACKING THREE WOMEN. 18-YEAR-OLD JOSE JUAN SOLORZANO WAS RECOGNIZED  ON THE 300-BLOCK OF SWIFT STREET FRIDAY MORNING FROM A SKETCH DRAWN THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AFTER A WOMAN TOLD POLICE A MAN GRABBED AND FONDLED HER.    SOLORZANO WAS ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF SEXUAL BATTERY AND STALKING.   IN CUSTODY, THE SUSPECT ADMITTED TO THE THURSDAY NIGHT ASSAULT AS WELL AS THE ATTACKS ON TWO WOMEN JOGGING IN THE WESTSIDE OF SANTA CRUZ IN APRIL.    SOLORZANO REMAINS (TUES) IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY JAIL IN LIEU OF 25-THOUSAND DOLLARS BAIL.

APTOS HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS ARE MAKING ADJUSTMENTS AFTER THE RECENT SUICIDES OF TWO STUDENTS. SINCE THE DEATHS, APTOS HIGH HAS BROADENED WELLNESS PROGRAMS AND HAS DEVELOPED SUICIDE INTERVENTION TOOLS. ADDITIONALLY STUDENTS HAVE CREATED PEER SUPPORT CLUBS INCLUDING BE THE CHANGE, RISE ABOVE, AND THE BRIDGE PROJECT.     THE SCHOOL IS ENCOURAGING TEENS TO SPEAK UP IF THEY THINK A CLASSMATE NEEDS SUPPORT.
