A WOMAN SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES IN A SOLO VEHICLE ACCIDENT THIS AFTERNOON. THE 4:45 P-M INCIDENT OCCURRED ON NORTHBOUND HIGHWAY 1 JUST SOUTH OF DOLAN ROAD. THE HUSBAND, WHO WAS DRIVING WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED, WAS UNINJURED IN THE ACCIDENT.

ALTHOUGH NO ONE HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED THIS MORNING, SEVERAL ACCIDENTS (AND EVEN A LANDSLIDE, AND A SEPARATE ROAD CLOSURE) HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN CONNECTION WITH THIS MORNING’S RAINY WEATHER. AT 9 A-M THERE WAS A 2 VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON SALINAS ROAD IN NORTH MONTEREY COUNTY. JUST BEFORE 9:30 A BIG-RIG OVERTURNED BLOCKING MOUNT HERMON ROAD IN SCOTTS VALLEY. AT 10:08, A MUDSLIDE BLOCKING PART OF SAN ANDREAS ROAD IN SOUTH SANTA CRUZ COUNTY WAS REPORTED. AT 10:25 A-M A 2-CAR ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON HIGHWAY 17 AT LAUREL CURVE; AND AT 10:42 A VEHICLE ON SOUTHBOUND HIGHWAY 101 HIT THE CONCRETE CENTER DIVIDER NEAR THE BORONDA ROAD EXIT.

MOUNT HERMON ROAD IN SCOTTS VALLEY IS CLOSED BETWEEN LOCKHART GULCH, AND LILAC LANE…..WHICH IS PRETTY CLOSE TO WHERE MOUNT HERMON ROAD CROSSES OVER EAST ZAYANTE ROAD. THE ROAD IS CLOSED BECAUSE A RITE AID BIG-RIG OVERTURNED AND IS BLOCKING THE LANES. THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK SAID THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN A DARK-COLORED VEHICLE CUT IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK AROUND 9:30 THIS MORNING. P.G & E. WORKERS ARE ON-SCENE BECAUSE THE TRUCK REPORTEDLY HIT SOME POWER LINES WHEN IT OVERTURNED. NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT.

A FEDERAL JUDGE HAS UPHELD THE CALIFORNIA BAN ON THE SALE OF SHARK FINS, TOSSING OUT A CHALLENGE THAT SAID THE BAN UNFAIRLY TARGETED THE CHINESE COMMUNITY. U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE WILLIAM ORRICK SAYS THE LAW APPLIES EQUALLY ALL AROUND THE STATE, AND DOES NOT TARGET ANY ONE GROUP. THE BAN WENT INTO FULL EFFECT IN JULY . THE CHAIRMAN OF THE CHINATOWN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION SAYS THEY PLAN TO APPEAL JUDGE ORRICK’S RULING.

A CIVIL LAWSUIT (OVER A FATAL ACCIDENT) HAS BEEN SETTLED OUT OF COURT. 63 YEAR-OLD NAVINDRA JAIN, AND TESLA MOTOR COMPANY, WERE SUED AFTER JAIN HIT 40 YEAR-OLD BICYCLIST JOSHUA ALPER, WHEN FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL OF HIS NEW TESLA MODEL S, AS HE DROVE NORTHBOUND ON HIGHWAY 1 NORTH OF SANTA CRUZ LAST NOVEMBER. IN THE CRIMINAL CASE, JAIN (WHO HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH MISDEMEANOR VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER) FACES 1 YEAR IN JAIL IF HE IS CONVICTED IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT.
