MARINA LIBRARY DELAYS VS

MARINA HEIGHTS SUBDIVISION DELAYS ARE HOLDING UP THE MARINA LIBRARY PROJECT. AN 8 MILLION DOLLAR BOND MEASURE WAS PASSED BY VOTERS, AND THE LAND HAS BEEN PURCHASED, BUT SINCE MARINA HAS NOT GROWN A PROJECTED 3 PERCENT, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TAX BASE TO SUPPORT THE PROJECT. WHEN THEY VOTED FOR THE BOND MEASURE, MARINA RESIDENTS AGREED TO TAX THEMSELVES 30 DOLLARS FOR EVERY 100 THOUSAND DOLLARS OF ASSESSED PROPERTY VALUE. BUT WITHOUT THE MORE THAN 1 THOUSAND HOMES (IN MARINA HEIGHTS), TAX NUMBERS DO NOT ADD UP. THE 248-ACRE MARINA HEIGHTS PROJECT REMAINS IN LITIGATION OVER THE ENDANGERED SAND GILIA PLANT LOCATED AT THE SITE. VARIOUS OPTIONS WILL BE DISCUSSED AT A TOWN HALL MEETING THURSDAY STARTING AT 7 P.M. IN THE TECHNOLOGY CENTER AT THE MARINA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT.
