Flooding, Road Closures As Heavy Rains Fall On Saturated Ground

After years of praying for rain, Santa Cruz County has had more than its fill. Looking for something to bet on now that the Super Bowl is in the past? Try betting on whether 17 will stay open!

Take A Look At Some Local Flooding

RESEARCHERS AT U.C. SANTA CRUZ REPORT SMALL EARTHQUAKES OCCURRING NEAR A SAN ANDREAS FAULT LINE ARE LINKED TO A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ENERGY PRODUCTION COMPANY.   THE NEW FINDINGS PUBLISHED THIS WEEK IN THE JOURNAL “SCIENCE” CONCLUDE THAT A CAL-ENERGY GEOTHERMAL FIELD NEAR THE CITY OFBRAWLEY, IS TRIGGERING AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF TREMBLORS.  RESEARCHERS FOUND THE COMPANY’S PROCEDURE OF TAKING WATER FROM THE EARTH’S SURFACE TO PRODUCE RENEWABLE ENERGY IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE QUAKES.   EVEN THOUGH CAL-ENERGY’S FACILITIES ARE LOCATED IN A SEISMICALLY ACTIVE AREA, AUTHORITIES SAY THE MAJORITY OF THE EARTHQUAKES AREN’T LARGE ENOUGH TO THREATEN HUMAN LIFE OR PROPERTY.
