Flooding, Road Closures As Heavy Rains Fall On Saturated Ground

After years of praying for rain, Santa Cruz County has had more than its fill. Looking for something to bet on now that the Super Bowl is in the past? Try betting on whether 17 will stay open!

Take A Look At Some Local Flooding

A  MONTEREY  COUNTY  JUDGE  HAS  HALTED  PLANS  FOR  A  RUNWAY  EXTENSION  AT  MONTEREY  AIRPORT.    JUDGE  LYDIA  VILLAREAL SAYS  THAT’S  BECAUSE   THE  DISTRICT  HAS  FAILED  TO  CONSIDER  ALTERNATIVES  TO  THE  SERVICE  ROAD  FOR  THAT  EXTENDED  RUNWAY….AND  THAT  THE  AIRPORT  DISTRICT  HAS  NOT  HAD  A COMPLETE  ENVIRONMENTAL  IMPACT  REVIEW DONE  FOR  THAT  PROJECT.    AMONG  OTHER  THINGS  INVOLVED,   FOR THE  SERVICE  TO  BE  CONSTRUCTED  WHERE  THE  DISTRICT  CURRENTLY PLANS,   MORE  THAN  300  OAK  TREES  WOULD  HAVE TO  BE  REMOVED.    FOR  NOW  THOUGH,   JUDGE  VILLAREAL SAYS  THE  AIRPORT  DISTRICT  CAN  PROCEED WITH  ALL  FEDERALLY-REQUIRED  SAFETY  PROJECTS…  WITHOUT  THE  ROAD.
