Flooding, Road Closures As Heavy Rains Fall On Saturated Ground

After years of praying for rain, Santa Cruz County has had more than its fill. Looking for something to bet on now that the Super Bowl is in the past? Try betting on whether 17 will stay open!

Take A Look At Some Local Flooding

IF  250  THOUSAND  DOLLARS  CAN  BE  RAISED,   THEN  IT’S  POSSIBLE  THAT  SUN  STREET  CENTERS’  3  PREVENTION CENTERS  IN  SALINAS  COULD  REMAIN  OPEN  PAST  DECEMBER.    THAT’S  WHEN  THE CURRENT  GRANT  RUNS  OUT.    SUN STREET’S  C.E.O.  PLANS  TO  RE-APPLY  FOR  THE  MUCH  SOUGHT-AFTER  DRUG  FREE  COMMUNITIES  GRANT  FROM  THE  SUBSTANCE  AND  MENTAL  HEALTH  SERVICES ADMINISTRATION  NEXT YEAR,  BUT THAT  MIGHT NOT HELP  THE  CURRENT CROP  OF  PAID  EMPLOYEES,  OR  THE  COMMUNITY.     THE  3  PREVENTION  CENTERS  SERVED  MORE  THAN  54  HUNDRED  PEOPLE  LAST  YEAR.

THE  PROGRAM’S  GOAL  IS  TO  PREVENT  SUBSTANCE  ABUSE,  BY  EDUCATING  PEOPLE  ABOUT  THE  DANGERS  OF  ADDICTION,  (WHETHER  IT  BE  TO  DRUGS  OR ALCOHOL).

THEIR  AFTER-SCHOOL  PEER-TO-PEER  MENTORING PROGRAM  WOULD  ALSO  BE  LOST IF  THE  CENTERS  HAVE TO  CLOSE  THEIR  DOORS.
