SANTA CRUZ BIG WAVE SURFER, 32 YEAR OLD SHAWN DOLLAR, PADDLED AND SURFED A 61 FOOT WAVE LAST DECEMBER AT CORTES BANK, OFF THE COAST OF CALIFORNIA, 100 MILES WEST OF SAN DIEGO. IT HAS BEEN CERTIFIED BY GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS, AS THE BIGGEST WAVE EVER PADDLED AND SURFED, ON RECORD. THE WAVE WAS CAUGHT BY HUMAN PADDLE POWER EFFORT AND WAS LARGER THAN ANY OTHER WAVE CAUGHT LAST YEAR BY ANY METHOD, EVEN WITH THE USE OF JET SKIS . THIS MARKS DOLLAR’S SECOND TRIP TO THE BOOK OF RECORDS. HE HAD A SHORT-LIVED TENURE IN 2010 FOR A 55-FOOTER AT HALF MOON BAY , BUT WAS BESTED BY HAWAIIAN SHANE DORIAN WHO RODE A 57-FOOTER LATER THAT YEAR AT MAUI.
