Flooding, Road Closures As Heavy Rains Fall On Saturated Ground

After years of praying for rain, Santa Cruz County has had more than its fill. Looking for something to bet on now that the Super Bowl is in the past? Try betting on whether 17 will stay open!

Take A Look At Some Local Flooding

THE  MONTEREY  COUNTY  PLANNING  COMMISSION HAS  GRANTED  A  4-YEAR  PERMIT  EXTENSION  FOR  THE  SEPTEMBER  RANCH HOUSING  DEVELOPMENT  OFF  CARMEL  VALLEY ROAD.      THE  95-LOT,   891-ACRE  PROJECT, WHICH  HAS  ALREADY  RECEIVED  A  2-YEAR-EXTENSION THAT  TAKES IT TO  2014,    WAS  INITIALLY  APPROVED   IN   NOVEMBER  OF  2010.    DUE  TO YESTERDAY’S  EXTENSION APPROVAL,  THE  PERMIT WILL  NOW  NOT  EXPIRE  UNTIL  NOVEMBER  OF 2018.

SOME  SAY  THE  WATER  SUPPLY  FOR  THIS  PROJECT  IS  IN  QUESTION…BECAUSE  THE  INITIALLY  PLANNED  WATER  SOURCE  MAY  NOT  BE  RELIABLE.

THE  PROJECT  WAS  FIRST PROPOSED  BACK  IN 1992.    IT  HAS  EARNED  COUNTY  APPROVAL  TWICE  BEFORE,  AND HAS  TWICE BEEN  REJECTED  BY  THE  COURTS   (THAT  REQUIRED  A  MORE  EXTENSIVE  ENVIRONMENTAL  IMPACT  REPORT).
