3 PEOPLE WERE SHOT AND KILLED THIS AFTERNOON IN SANTA CRUZ. 2 LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS (WITH THE SANTA CRUZ POLICE DEPARTMENT) WERE SHOT AROUND 3:30 P.M., DURING AN INVESTIGATION ON THE 800 BLOCK OF NORTH BRANCIFORTE AVENUE (BETWEEN SUNNYSIDE AVENUE AND DOYLE STREET). ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER, A SUSPECT IN THOSE SHOOTINGS WAS KILLED ON DOYLE STREET (DURING A CHASE WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS). DURING THE INVESTIGATION OF THOSE SHOOTINGS, NUMEROUS STREETS WERE CLOSED, AND AREA SCHOOLS WERE LOCKED DOWN.
SANTA CRUZ POLICE CHIEF KEVIN VOGEL SAID HIS DEPARTMENT IS IN MOURNING, AND THAT IT WAS A HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE DAY FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE COMMUNITY OF SANTA CRUZ.
THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT HAS TAKEN OVER THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION OF THESE SHOOTINGS.
