A stolen service dog was reunited with her paraplegic owner yesterday after 2 weeks. Honey was adopted by Ernestina Saldana 3 years ago to help the woman with household tasks and provide comfort. 2 weeks ago, Saldana was at a bagel shop in downtown Santa Cruz, when she emerged after 15 minutes to find her car door wide open and Honey missing. Yesterday Saldana received a call from the animal shelter saying the person who had taken the animal had turned her in. The training the dog received to help Saldana is estimated at $10,000, and included things like helping Saldana out of bed, turning on lights, and even opening the refrigerator.
