Medical Marijuana Dispensary Proposal 2/19/13 10.20a AF

An application to open a medical marijuana dispensary in Santa Cruz will go before the city’s planning commission on Thursday.     Local Attorney David E. Thompson is applying to open a dispensary that would be located on River Street near the bus depot and Harvey West Park.     The permit is for a 1,500 square foot dispensary with a 3,000 square foot indoor growing operation.     Santa Cruz City Commissioners will consider a special exemption needed to open the medical cannabis shop, because it would be within 600 feet of a residential zone.     If Thompson is able to open the “Surf City Collective”, it would be the second dispensary in the city, which can have a maximum of 2 such facilities.
