Bill Fights Insurance Discrimination 2/7/13 11.30a AF
In Sacramento today, Senator Bill Monning of Carmel introduced legislation to add consumer protections to wellness programs offered by group health care plans or insurers. If approved, Senate bill 189 will institute protection from discrimination against those with pre-existing medical conditions. Like the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the bill will give incentives for preventative actions and participation based wellness programs. The changes outlined in the bill are backed by a number of health organizations, including the American Cancer Society and AARP.
