Gilroy looks at downtown signs 01/11/13 11a.m. TDH
Gilroy city council members are exploring the idea of hanging signs in the downtown area—both temporary ones and a permanent sign. Council members are looking to allow non-profits (and perhaps paid sponsors), to hang signs and banners over monterey street. city leaders also are hoping to erect a permanent sign over the roadway, welcoming visitors to the area. council members instructed city staff to explore options for preventing offensive or embarrassing speech on the signs, while maintaining principals of equal access and freedom of speech.
