White Sharks May be Added to Endangered List 1/09/13 8a AF
Northwest Pacific white sharks may receive added protection from the state in the next year. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has released a petition to add the animals to the endangered species list. The department says they have enough scientific information suggesting that the sharks should be considered threatened or endangered, and plan to present their findings to the California Fish and Game Commission at its next meeting on February 6th. If the commission does decide to accept the petition, it still may take a year to review the information presented by Fish and Wildlife before adding the sharks to the list.
