Euro moth eradicated 01/08/13 8a.m. TDH

Federal officials have officially declared that the European Grapevine Moth has been eradicated from santa cruz county.  quarantines have been lifted in the aptos and watsonville areas.  the restrictions were imposed after 2-moths were caught in the area in 2011.  The California department of food and agriculture deployed traps and investigated surrounding areas to monitor the moth’s spread.  Although no more moths have been trapped, additional traps will be placed in the area during the growing season, and grape shipments into santa cruz county will continue to be monitored.  The moths were first found in the U.S. in the napa area in 2009
