The Santa Cruz Police department has released their statistics from this year’s downtown New Years Eve celebrations. The department’s entire force was used to handle crowds and other service calls during the festivities. The department estimates that a crowd of around 7,000 gathered in the area around the clock tower on Pacific Avenue. Attendance was down slightly from last year, but arrests were up, with 21 being taken into custody for public intoxication, and 1 for narcotics possession. 31 citations were issued as well, including 24 triple fines for alcohol possession.
