Trout program successful 12/31/12 9a.m. TDH

A pilot-program designed to reduce or eliminate the death of steelhead trout in pescadero marsh is being hailed as a success.  The experimental program involved digging a channel through a sandbar that regularly forms at the marsh when winter storms arrive.  The lack of water flow causes of buildup of oxygenated water and other hazards that can kill the endangered trout by the hundreds.  The channel that was dug through the sandbar has reportedly resulted in enough water flow (so far) to prevent a so-called “fish kill” event this winter.
