Cal-trans has appointed a new chief engineer. Karla sutliff will take the reigns of the department after having served for 26 years, marking the 1st time a woman has held the position in the department’s 101-year-history. as chief engineer and deputy, sutliff will be responsible for all engineering aspects of the department’s construction projects, from conception to completion, and oversee 9-thousand cal-trans employees and an annual budget of 1-point-8 million dollars. Sutliff earned her bachelor’s in civil engineering at uc-davis.
