ATM scam warning 12/17/12 11a.m. TDH

Authorities in santa cruz county are warning residents to be aware of A-T-M fraud that has been recently reported.  The santa cruz county district attorney sent out the advisory after receiving information that so called A-T-M “skimming devices” are becoming more prevalent throughout the state.  The devices are illegally installed in A-T-Ms, and pick up customers’ pin numbers and account information.  Authorities advise residents to make sure there is nothing unusual about the A-T-M being used, especially damage or scratching on the front.   Avoid late- night and early morning withdrawals, and check your bank statements regularly.
