a 19-year-old man was shot in the neck early saturday morning, as he was walking near salinas' acosta plaza. just after midnight, salinas police officers responded to the area after receiving a report of shots fired. officers did not locate any evidence of a shooting, but a short time later, they were contacted by staff at natividad medical center. the victim had been brought there by a friend, and was suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. he told police that a white vehicle approached him, and someone began shooting. the victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. he was airlifted to a bay area trauma center for treatment.
