2 security guards at salinas's northridge mall were injured while trying to stop a man from driving drunk saturday night. 21-year-old jose luis rangel was playing loud music in the mall's parking lot at about 9 p.m. security guards suspected rangel of being drunk, and when they tried to stop him from driving away, he knocked both guards to the ground with his vehicle. one of the victims sustained only minor injuries, but the other was airlifted to an out-of-county trauma center to be treated for a head injury. rangel was arrested after a C-H-P helicopter helped locate him on north main street. he was booked into monterey county jail on multiple charges, including felony D-U-I and hit and run causing injury.
