Pg&e Diablo seismic study rejected 11/15/12 6:30p.m. TDH

The California coastal commission has unanimously rejected a bid by pg & e to conduct an underwater seismic survey near the Diablo canyon nuclear power plant.   The seismic survey would have involved targeting sound-blasts at the ocean floor, to map the hosgri fault line (off the coast of san luis Obispo).    Coastal commissioners rejected the plan, citing the likely negative effects the sound-blasts would have had on marine life.  A study on otter health that pg & e funded is expected to go forward, despite the rejection.  The utility company had agreed to fund the otter study to mitigate the impact of the seismic survey, however opponents said there was no relation between the 2 plans.  As part of the long-term otter-health study, 47 otters in the moro bay area have been fitted with electronic tags.
